Meeting JCT

On Thursday 7 October, we heard about their work, and the passion that inspires it, from members of JCT (Just Come Together). Read on to see more, or visit our highlights page to see them talk bout their work.

Daren, the director of JCT joined us, along with Michael, Jonathan and Errol, and spoke movingly about their commitment to actions within their Battersea community that bring change and safety within the area where they live. They spoke about how they get alongside young people in patrolling streets, mentoring, responding to issues facing individuals or affecting the wider community, on a daily basis touching the lives of many people. They focus on providing care, support and positive role models to young people, and their activities include de-escalating tensions when there is the danger of knife crime, being the appropriate adult for young people in police custody, as well as a food-sharing programme.

It was inspiring to hear stories of interventions that saved lives and those that brought hope to parents or young people struggling with the impact of today’s knife crime culture.

Each member of JCT is a volunteer, giving time to this compassionate and powerful work in their spare time. If you’d like to know more about their activities, or to volunteer or donate to their work, visit their website.

We are grateful for their time in sharing with us, even more that they are providing this invaluable service to our community!
